Paper lanterns drift across dark water, each glowing softly and trailing its own reflection — the tōrō nagashi ritual, where lanterns are set afloat to see the spirits home. They are already moving away as you look at them. Drawn in deep indigo ink, in the spirit of classical Japanese sumi-e. This is mujō — impermanence, the truth that nothing holds still: warmth and farewell in the same quiet image.

THE PHILOSOPHY

This piece is rooted in three intersecting Japanese principles:

  • Mujō (無常) — impermanence, the truth that nothing holds still
  • Mono no aware (物の哀れ) — the tender awareness of things passing
  • Ma (間) — the eloquence of negative space

Each print is designed not as decoration, but as a small invitation to pause.
