Low to the ground and moving, the fox slips down through the mist — head lowered, tails streaming behind it like smoke. Here for a moment, already half-gone. Drawn in raw black ink and fine line on warm cream paper, in the spirit of classical Japanese sumi-e, its nine flowing tails dissolving into fog. In folklore the nine-tailed fox passes between the human world and the spirit world, seen only when it chooses to be. This is ma — the meaningful emptiness the fox travels through, where the open paper carries as much as the ink.
