Two hydrangea blooms sit on their stems, one above the other. The indigo deepens at the base of each cluster, while the sage leaves rest below. Drawn in the spirit of sumi-e, the piece is rooted in yohaku-no-bi, the beauty of empty space. Most of the paper is blank, and the flowers occupy a slender vertical through the centre. What is not drawn matters as much as what is.
