Yugen Print started with a simple idea: a wall should hold something that asks you to slow down.

The work comes from three ideas in Japanese aesthetics. Wabi-sabi is the beauty in things that are imperfect and don't last. Ma is the deliberate use of empty space. Yūgen is a quiet depth that's hard to put into words. Every design starts from these. The aim isn't decoration for its own sake, but art that anchors a room and gives the eye somewhere to rest.

The studio is run between Kobe, Japan and New Zealand. Time in Japan keeps the designs close to the traditions they come from, and much of the making happens in the quiet of New Zealand.

Every piece is an original design, created digitally in the spirit of sumi-e ink painting. It's printed to order by trusted print partners, so nothing is wasted. We ship worldwide, and we stand behind the quality of every print.
