About

Yugen Print began with a simple conviction: that a wall should hold something that asks you to slow down.

The studio's work is rooted in three ideas drawn from Japanese aesthetics — wabi-sabi, the beauty found in imperfection and impermanence; ma, the intentional use of empty space; and yūgen, a sense of profound, quiet depth that can't quite be put into words. Every design begins from those principles. The aim is never decoration for its own sake, but art that anchors a room and gives the eye somewhere to rest.

The studio is run between Kobe, Japan and New Zealand — two places that shape the work in different ways. Time in Japan keeps the designs close to the traditions they draw from; the quiet of New Zealand is where much of the making happens. Living between both is part of how Yugen Print sees: one foot in the source, one foot in the open space.

Every piece is an original design, produced as a fine-art print on archival-quality paper through trusted print partners, and made to order so that nothing is wasted. We ship worldwide, and we stand behind the quality of everything that leaves the studio.

If a piece speaks to you, we hope it brings a little stillness to wherever you hang it.
