It is not doing anything — it is simply present, watching, the way a messenger waits. Drawn in raw black ink and fine line on warm cream paper, in the spirit of classical Japanese sumi-e, its many tails flowing up into mist and open space. In folklore the white fox is the sacred messenger of Inari, and the nine-tailed fox the oldest and wisest of its kind.
